A two days training/seminar with the topic: How to make a difference through policy-relevant research? took place from 22 24th June 2007 in joint organization by The Citizens Pact for South Eastern Europe and European Stability Initiative (ESI). This training/seminar was a part of ESI capacity building program, having the aim to encourage the emergence of a new generation of think tanks in Southeastern Europe. More about ESI capacity building program you can find on the web-site: http://www.esiweb.org/index.php?lang=en&id=43The overall objective of the seminar How to make a difference through policy-relevant research? was to foster local capacities for independent policy research in Serbia. The main aims were to raise the participants methodological skills in order to allow them to carry out independent policy-oriented research in Serbia and to develop basic skills for respective policy advocacy.
Two ESI analysts introduced the 16 competitively selected participants to the research methodology ESI has developed in the past six years and encouraged them to apply a similar set of questions and techniques to understanding economic and social trends in their own society. The thematic program of the training/seminar you can find here16 participants were selected from more than 50 received applications. Participants at the seminar are representatives of local and international NGOs, university, media, political party, public and national organization and institutions etc. Very short after the seminar the interested participants organized the first meeting to discuss their further engagement and work. The next meeting is planned for middle of July. The Citizens Pact is encourages all participants to engage their new skills and knowledge in an ongoing ESI research and will give their assistance in their further work in establishing a new research group/think-tank.
